Eberhard Straub, born in 1940 in Berlin-Charlottenburg, is a German historian, journalist, and author. He studied history, art history, and archaeology in Bonn, Munich, Turin, and Vienna, and completed his habilitation. Until 1986, he was a feuilleton editor at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, followed by a position as press officer for the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft until 1997. As a freelance writer, he published numerous books on cultural and national history, historical biographies, literature, and art. His works include Die Wittelsbacher, Eine kleine Geschichte Preußens, and Das zerbrechliche Glück; he also wrote a history of the Furtwängler family.
