Dmitri Merezhkovsky (1865–1941) was a Russian writer and a major representative of Russian Symbolism. Born in St. Petersburg, he wrote primarily historical novels and novellas. His novel “Leonardo da Vinci,” published in 1901, was translated into numerous languages and distributed internationally. Merezhkovsky was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature nine times. He died in Paris.
