Didier van Cauwelaert was born in Nice in 1960 and is a French writer. He has written novels, plays and screenplays, and has also worked as a director. Before becoming known as a novelist, he spent several years in theatre and appeared in a play by Jean-Paul Sartre. In 1994, he received the Prix Goncourt for his novel Un aller simple. His other award-winning works include Vingt ans et des poussières, Poisson d’amour and Les vacances du fantôme. Several of his novels have been adapted for the screen, and his works have been translated into more than twenty languages.
