Detlef Brennecke

Detlef Brennecke (born 1944) was a film actor in Berlin in his youth. He studied Scandinavian, German and English literature in Frankfurt am Main, earned a doctorate in 1972 and later taught Scandinavian studies as a professor in Frankfurt. As a nonfiction author, he wrote biographies of Roald Amundsen, Sven Hedin and Fridtjof Nansen, among others, as well as books on Scandinavian literature and intellectual history. His works have been translated into several languages. In 1988, he received the Natur und Kultur Foundation Prize from the Swedish Academy. He also supervised several volumes for Edition Erdmann.
