Derek Raymond, the pen name of Robin Cook, was born in 1931 as the eldest son of a textile magnate and educated at Eton. Rather than continuing his studies at Oxford, he initially spent time in London’s underworld before turning to writing. He lived for periods in Spain, Italy, and the United States. In 1991, he received the German Crime Fiction Prize. Raymond died in London in 1994. His works published in German include Roter Nebel and Ich war Dora Suarez.
