Deepa Anappara grew up in Kerala in southern India and worked as a journalist in Delhi and Mumbai. She later studied Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. Her work on the effects of poverty and religious violence on children’s development received several awards. Her debut novel, *Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line*, was translated into 16 languages and received, among others, the Bridport/Peggy Chapman-Andrews Award, the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize, and the Deborah Rogers Foundation Writers Award.
