David J. Chalmers (born 1966) is a philosopher and neuroscientist. His academic career includes a professorship at New York University, where he also served as co-director of the Center for Mind, Brain and Consciousness. His conception of the so-called “hard problem” had a major influence on contemporary philosophy of mind. He received several awards for his work, including the Jean Nicod Prize. Chalmers is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Australian Academy of the Humanities.
