David Hockney (born 1937 in Bradford, England) is a British painter, draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer and photographer. He studied at the Royal College of Art in London and emerged in the early 1960s in the context of British Pop Art. In 1964 he moved to Los Angeles, where he created his well-known swimming-pool paintings. Hockney worked across numerous media, incorporating technologies including Polaroids, photocopiers, fax machines and digital imaging into his art. Portraiture and landscape are among his other principal subjects.
