David Abulafia (born 1949) taught the history of the Mediterranean at the University of Cambridge and was a Fellow of Gonville and Caius College and the British Academy. In 2003, he was appointed Commendatore dell’Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana for his work on Italian and Mediterranean history. He published numerous books, including The Mediterranean (2013), which was translated into many languages and received several awards, and The Boundless Sea. In 2020, he received the Wolfson History Prize for the latter work.
