Daphne Sheldrick (born 1934) grew up in Kenya and devoted her life to the protection of Africa’s wildlife. In 1955, she married David Sheldrick, co-founder and director of Tsavo National Park. After his death, she founded the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in 1977, an organization dedicated to wildlife conservation in East Africa. She received international honors for her work and was appointed a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II. She was also known to international audiences through numerous television documentaries about the relationship between people and Africa’s wild animals.
