Daphne du Maurier (1907–1989) was an English writer who produced novels, novellas, and biographies. She became particularly well known for the novels *Rebecca* (1938) and *My Cousin Rachel* (1951), both of which were adapted for film. Her short story “The Birds” also provided the basis for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 horror film of the same name.
