Daniel Wildenstein

Daniel Wildenstein (1917–2001) was a French art historian and a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1939, he directed the Wildenstein galleries in New York, London, and Tokyo. He also headed the journals Arts (1956–1962) and Gazette des Beaux-Arts (from 1963). In 1970, he co-founded the Wildenstein Foundation, which supported numerous exhibitions. Wildenstein additionally oversaw the preparation of catalogues raisonnés for artists from the 18th to the 20th centuries and published catalogues of the complete works of Paul Gauguin, Édouard Manet, and Claude Monet.
