Daniel Birnbaum

Daniel Birnbaum (born 1963) studied art history, philosophy and literary studies in Stockholm, Berlin and New York. He worked as an art critic, independent curator and lecturer in art theory. From 2000 to 2010, he was rector of the Städelschule in Frankfurt, and from 2010 to 2018 he served as director of Moderna Museet in Stockholm. In 2021, he co-edited a seven-volume catalogue raisonné of Hilma af Klint’s work with Kurt Almqvist.
