Colin Dexter

Colin Dexter (1930–2017) studied classics before working as a secondary-school teacher and later as an examiner at the University of Oxford. He published his first novel, The Last Bus to Woodstock, in 1973. He went on to write thirteen further Inspector Morse cases, which were adapted as a television series. Dexter received several awards, including the CWA Gold Dagger on multiple occasions. He was awarded the CWA Diamond Dagger for lifetime achievement and an Order of the British Empire for services to literature.
