Clive Barker was born in Liverpool in 1952. He worked as a writer, screenwriter, playwright, painter, and film director. At the beginning of his artistic career, he made avant-garde films and wrote plays, which were later collected in *Incarnations* (1995) and *Forms of Heaven* (1996). He became widely known in the 1980s through the *Books of Blood*. His novels include *Weaveworld* (1987), *Imajica* (1991), and *Sacrament* (1996). He directed the film adaptations *Hellraiser* and *The Last Illusion* himself.
