Christof Mauch

Christof Mauch (born 1960) is a historian whose fields include American cultural history, transatlantic relations and environmental history. He was a professor at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and directed its Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society. Until 2007, he was director of the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C.; he also held visiting professorships in Australia, India, Canada, Austria, Poland and the United States. From 2011 to 2013, Mauch served as president of the European Society for Environmental History. His research and books have received numerous national and international awards. An avid cyclist, he explored more than 20 countries by bicycle and travelled across Europe with his two sons, from Spain to the North Cape.
