Christine de Pizan (born in Venice in 1364) lived and worked at the Valois court in Paris. She is regarded as France’s first professional female writer and took part in the political debates of her time. With around 40 writings, she became an important voice in the Querelle des Femmes. Her best-known works include *The Book of the City of Ladies* and *The Treasure of the City of Ladies*.
