Christiane Zehl Romero

Christiane Zehl Romero, born in Vienna in 1937, studied English, German and Romance languages and literature at the University of Vienna, where she subsequently earned her doctorate. She studied comparative literature at the Sorbonne in Paris and at Yale University, earning an M.Phil. She was Professor of German and International Literary and Cultural Studies and Goldthwaite Professor of Rhetoric at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Her research focused on twentieth-century women writers, German and comparative literature, and film. Her publications include biographies of Simone de Beauvoir and Anna Seghers, a two-volume biography of Seghers, and, with Almut Giesecke, a two-volume edition of Seghers’s letters.
