Christiane Tietz

Christiane Tietz, born in 1967, studied mathematics and Protestant theology in Frankfurt am Main and Tübingen. She received her doctorate in 1999 and completed her habilitation in 2004. From 2008 to 2013, she was Professor of Systematic Theology and Social Ethics at the University of Mainz, followed by a professorship in Systematic Theology at the University of Zurich. In 2025, she took up the office of church president of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau. Tietz wrote her doctoral dissertation on Dietrich Bonhoeffer and chaired the German-speaking section of the International Bonhoeffer Society from 2008 to 2018. Her books include Karl Barth: Ein Leben im Widerspruch and Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Theologe im Widerstand.
