Christa Wolf

Christa Wolf (1929–2011) was a German writer. She was born in Landsberg/Warthe, now Gorzów Wielkopolski, and studied German literature in Jena and Leipzig. She subsequently worked, among other roles, as a research assistant, editor and publishing editor before becoming a freelance writer. Her fiction and essays were translated into many languages and received numerous national and international honors, including the Georg Büchner Prize. Wolf died in Berlin in 2011.
