Chris Riddell was born in 1962 in Cape Town, South Africa, and grew up in England. He studied design and worked as an author, illustrator and political cartoonist. He became widely known as a co-author of the New York Times bestselling series The Edge Chronicles and as the creator and illustrator of the children’s series Ada Goth and Ottoline. Riddell received the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal three times, including for The Sleeper and the Spindle, a record number of wins for the award.
