Chava Rosenfarb

Chava Rosenfarb (1923–2011) was an award-winning author who wrote mainly in Yiddish and occasionally in English. Born in Łódź, Poland, she survived the Łódź ghetto and the concentration camps Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. In 1950, she emigrated to Canada with her husband and began her writing career there. She continued to write most of her work in Yiddish, producing novels, short stories, essays, plays, and poetry. Her principal work is the three-volume novel “Der boim fun lebn” (“The Tree of Life”), published in 1972 and focused on the Jewish community of Łódź. The Holocaust remained a central theme throughout her writing.
