Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834–1892) was a British Baptist pastor and one of the best-known preachers of the 19th century. He served as a Baptist preacher at the Metropolitan Tabernacle for 38 years. During this period, he also founded a college and an orphanage. His vivid, accessible sermons were widely read, and his collection *The Treasury of David’s Promises* is among his best-known works.
