Carola Rackete

Carola Rackete (born 1988) studied nautical science in Elsfleth, Germany, and conservation management in Ormskirk, England. She worked on polar research vessels, including for the Alfred Wegener Institute and the British Antarctic Survey. From 2016 to 2019, she volunteered with civil sea-rescue organizations in the Central Mediterranean. In 2019, she was arrested as captain of the rescue vessel Sea-Watch 3. Rackete advocates for nature conservation and climate justice.
