Carmen Possnig was born in Klagenfurt in 1988 and is a general practitioner. In 2018, she spent a year in Antarctica as part of a research assignment for the European Space Agency. At the Concordia research station, she studied how people adapt physically and mentally to extreme environments, using a 13-member crew as her research group. The conditions there are considered comparable to those on Mars.
