Carlo Brune, born in Duisburg in 1970, is a scholar of German literature and literary education. He studied German, Catholic theology and philosophy in Münster, Bielefeld and Basel, and received his doctorate from the University of Münster in 2002 with a dissertation on Roland Barthes. After completing his second state examination, he worked for many years as a secondary-school teacher. In 2018, he completed his habilitation at Leibniz University Hannover with a study on the teaching of literature. His academic career included a professorship in German literary studies and literary education at Ludwigsburg University of Education. His research has focused on the literary periods around 1800 and 1900, contemporary and popular literature, poetry, and the mediation of literary texts.
