Bill Buford, born in Louisiana in 1954, studied at Berkeley and Cambridge. He was a founding editor and served as editor of the literary magazine Granta for sixteen years, later becoming a publisher at Granta Books. From 1995 to 2002, he worked as a literary editor at The New Yorker. His books include Among the Thugs and Heat: An Amateur’s Adventures as a Kitchen Slave, Sous-Chef, Pasta Maker and Apprentice Butcher.
