Beth Chatto

Beth Chatto (d. 2018) was an influential British gardener and author. She became known especially for designing gardens according to their conditions and selecting plants suited to each site. Her famous gravel garden on her estate in Essex is regarded as a lasting expression of her approach to gardening. Chatto’s motto was “The right plant for the right place.” She published several books that became standard works of garden literature.
