Born in 1950, Bernd-M. Beyer-Schwarzbach initially worked as a newspaper editor before studying politics and economics. From 1981 to 2015, he served as an editor at the publishing house Die Werkstatt, where he specialized in the history of football. He was also a member of the German Academy for Football Culture.
