Bernard Sumner

Bernard Sumner, born in 1956, grew up in Manchester. In 1976, he co-founded Joy Division, where he played keyboards and guitar. After the death of vocalist Ian Curtis, Sumner and the other band members formed New Order. As a musician and producer, he became known for his pioneering use of synthesizers in pop music. He also worked on side projects with musicians including Kraftwerk’s Karl Bartos, the Pet Shop Boys and Johnny Marr of The Smiths.
