Beatrix Potter (1866–1943) was an English children’s author and illustrator, as well as a natural scientist and conservationist. She is best known for her animal stories, including The Tale of Peter Rabbit, published in 1902. Potter illustrated most of her books herself and wrote a total of 28 illustrated children’s books. She began drawing animals, plants, and landscapes as a child, and her interest in natural history later informed her commitment to preserving the landscape of the Lake District.
