Beate Maxian is an Austrian author. Before becoming a writer, she worked as a production and assistant director on film productions and as a television editor and presenter. She published family novels, crime novels, and short stories. She is known for her Vienna crime novels featuring journalist Sarah Pauli and for the crime series about delicatessen shop owner Lou Conrad, which includes Ein tödlicher Jahrgang and Tödliche Marillenzeit. Maxian received several grants and was nominated for prizes including the Leo Perutz Prize and the Viktor Crime Award.
