Bastian Sick was born in Lübeck and studied history and Romance languages. During his studies, he worked as a proofreader for the Hamburg-based Carlsen publishing house. In 1995, he became a documentary journalist at Der Spiegel, moving to Spiegel Online in 1999. From 2003, he wrote the language column “Zwiebelfisch,” which led to the successful book series Der Dativ ist dem Genitiv sein Tod. He also published books such as Wie gut ist Ihr Deutsch? and appeared in readings and stage programs combining literary performance, cabaret, and quiz-show elements.
