Barry Hughart

Barry Hughart (born 1934 in the American Midwest) was an American writer. He grew up on a ranch in Arizona, studied at Andover Academy and Columbia University, and worked at various times as a bookseller and gardener. During his military service with the U.S. Air Force in the Far East, he developed an interest in Chinese literature and culture, which influenced his books. His novel The Bridge of Birds received the World Fantasy Award in 1985.
