Barry Hines

Barry Hines (1939–2016) was a writer whose breakthrough came with the novel “A Kestrel for a Knave.” Like its protagonist, Hines himself came from a working-class family. The book remains part of the school curriculum in England and was successfully adapted into the film “Kes.”
