Barbara Sternthal (born 1961) earned a doctorate in theatre and communications studies at the University of Vienna. She initially worked in advertising, served as an assistant director to George Tabori, and later became chief editor at a renowned publishing house. She subsequently worked as a freelance author, translator and editor. Her publications include travel guides, books and articles on art and culture, and biographies of Gustav Klimt and Sigmund Freud. Her other areas of focus include Vienna’s fin de siècle, Venice, architecture and design.
