Avi Shlaim

Avi Shlaim (born 1945 in Baghdad) is a British-Israeli historian and emeritus professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford, as well as a fellow of St Antony’s College. He grew up in Israel, served in the Israel Defense Forces, and studied at the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics. Shlaim is associated with the “New Historians,” who from the late 1980s critically reassessed established interpretations of the history of Israel and Zionism. He was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2006 and received its medal for lifetime achievement in 2017. His best-known books include *Collusion Across the Jordan*, *The Iron Wall*, *Lion of Jordan*, *Israel and Palestine*, and *Three Worlds: Memoirs of an Arab Jew*.
