Arundhati Roy was born in 1959 and grew up in the Indian state of Kerala. She became internationally known with her debut novel *The God of Small Things*, which received the Booker Prize in 1997. Her other notable works include the novel *The Ministry of Utmost Happiness* (2017) and the essay collections *Azadi* and *My Seditious Heart*. Roy has also been involved in political and humanitarian causes. In 2024, she received the PEN Pinter Prize.
