Artem Tschapaj was born in Kolomyia in western Ukraine. He is a Ukrainian author of several novels and nonfiction books. He has been a four-time finalist for the BBC Book of the Year Award. His story collection “Ukraine” was nominated for the Lviv UNESCO City of Literature Prize. His work has been translated into seven languages. In March 2022, his short story “Ukraine” became the first text by a Ukrainian author to appear in the US magazine The New Yorker.
