Arnold Lobel (1933–1987) was an American author and illustrator of picture books and children’s books. Born in Los Angeles, he studied art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. From 1961 onward, he published numerous books, including works for the “I Can Read” early-reader series. He is especially known for the stories about the contrasting friends Frog and Toad, which received numerous awards and are considered classics of American children’s literature.
