Arne Klawitter, born in 1969, studied German literature, English and North American literature, and philosophy at the University of Rostock, with study stays in Glasgow, Berkeley, and Nantes. He earned his doctorate in 2001 with a dissertation on Michel Foucault’s ontology of literature. From 2008 to 2013, he was an associate professor at Kyoto University. After completing his habilitation in Münster in 2012, he took up a professorship in modern German literature at Waseda University in Tokyo in 2013. His fields of research include literary and cultural theory, the aesthetics of writing, discourse analysis, and European literature from the eighteenth century to the present.
