Aristotle (384–322 BC) was a Greek philosopher and natural scientist. A student of Plato, he spent about 20 years at Plato’s Academy in Athens, where he developed positions of his own. After Plato’s death, he served among other roles as tutor to the Macedonian heir Alexander, later known as Alexander the Great. Around 335/334 BC, Aristotle returned to Athens and founded the Lyceum, where he taught. His writings and theories had a lasting influence on numerous fields, including logic, metaphysics, natural philosophy, ethics, and politics.
