Ariel Dorfman

Ariel Dorfman was born in Argentina in 1942 and lived in Chile until the 1973 military coup, supporting the politics of Salvador Allende. He went into exile after the coup. Dorfman was a professor of Latin American studies at Duke University and wrote numerous novels and essays. His play Death and the Maiden received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Play of the Season after its premiere at London’s Royal Court Theatre. The play was later adapted for the screen by Roman Polanski.
