Arezoo Sang Bastian studied law and Islamic studies at the universities of Zurich and Strasbourg. She obtained an MLaw degree and worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Private Law and Comparative Law headed by Andrea Büchler at the University of Zurich. She also served as managing director of the Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Legal Studies (CIMELS). Her doctoral research in law focused on organ-transplantation legislation in the Islamic world.
