Antje Babendererde

Antje Babendererde (born 1963) grew up in Thuringia, Germany. After training as a potter, she worked as an after-school-care worker and occupational therapist, including with children at a psychiatric and neurological hospital, before turning to writing. She has worked as a freelance author since 1996. Many of her novels for young people and adults explore the culture, history and contemporary situation of Indigenous peoples in North America, drawing on research and travel in the United States. In the novels “Isegrim” and “Der Kuss des Raben,” she also returned to Thuringia as a literary setting.
