Anouk Markovits

Anouk Markovits was born in France into a Satmar Hasidic family. At the age of 19, she left the community to avoid an arranged marriage and studied literature and architecture. She wrote her first novel in French. About 20 years later, she wrote an English-language novel about Mila, Atara, and Joseph, drawing on her own family history.
