Annie E. Proulx

Annie E. Proulx was born in Vermont in 1935. She wrote novels and short stories and achieved international recognition with the novel *The Shipping News*. Her work received, among other honors, the PEN/Faulkner Award, the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the Irish Times International Fiction Prize. She was also elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her short story “Brokeback Mountain” was adapted for film, which received three Academy Awards in 2005.
