Annette Vowinckel (born 1966) is a historian and cultural scholar. She headed the Department of Media History, also described as the Department of Contemporary History of the Media and Information Society, at the Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam, and taught modern and contemporary history at Humboldt University of Berlin. Her research focuses include media history—particularly the history of twentieth-century photography—historiography, and the history of relations between Europe and the Middle East. Her publications include “Agenten der Bilder. Fotografisches Handeln im 20. Jahrhundert” (2016).
