Anne de Vries was a Dutch writer and teacher. After completing his training, he worked as a village teacher in Tweede Exloërmond from 1923 and, from 1926, taught at the Bartiméus school for blind students in Zeist. From 1930, he initially published several school readers under a pseudonym. His first novel, “Bartje,” appeared in 1935 and portrays the youth of a boy from a poor farm-laborer family in the Dutch region of Drenthe. Following its success, de Vries worked as a full-time author of books for both adults and children. His children’s Bible also became widely known, particularly in Germany.
