Anna Sewell

Anna Sewell (1820–1878) was a British writer and animal advocate. She is best known for her only novel, *Black Beauty*, which became a worldwide bestseller after her death and has been adapted for film several times. Through the story, she advocated humane and gentle treatment of horses.
